Postdoc Position in Technology Ethics/Philosophy of Technology at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology

Start: January 2024 or earlier

Duration: 1 year (with an option for extension)

Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral position at the Humanities & Arts department at Technion, Israel institute of technology. The successful candidate will become part of the Technology Ethics workgroup led by Dr. Avigail Ferdman, and conduct independent and collaborative research.

The goal of the Technology Ethics workgroup is to conduct cutting-edge research in the ethics of emerging technologies. Some preference will be given to scholars working on political philosophy but the research topic is open. The successful candidate will be involved in the Technion Embedded Ethics program. Technion Embedded Ethics is a collaborative program that embeds the teaching of ethics directly into the core undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and engineering. Working in collaboration with computer science and engineering faculty, the fellow will create curricular materials, course assignments, and teach ethics modules in Computer science and engineering courses.

The applicant is required to have a PhD in philosophy, political science or Science and Technology Studies (STS), awarded or close to completion. We seek applicants who are enthusiastic about working with computer scientists and engineers to develop embedded ethics modules. Ability and desire to conduct independent research are essential; a publication record in a pertinent field is important.

Pay: $30,000 per year
