Funded PhD Positions in Philosophy at the Technion
The Department of Humanities and Arts at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology invites applications for funded PhD positions in philosophy.
Our philosophy faculty currently recruits candidates in philosophy of science (especially philosophy of the life sciences, cognitive science, and pharmacy and medicine), philosophy of mind and perception, and early modern/modern philosophy.
The Technion’s Department of Humanities and Arts is a growing community of academics working in the intersection between humanities, arts, science, and technology. The Technion is located on Mount Carmel in the beautiful city of Haifa, Israel, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Haifa is known for its beaches, diversity, vibrant history, and thriving cultural scene.
The department actively supports and advises students in applying for additional internal and external fellowships, and to promote the candidate’s research profile. Beyond this, the department supports all PhD students in applying for travel funding.
Recruiting Faculty Supervisors
- Topaz Halperin — philosophy of biology (especially philosophy of ecology, evolution, social behavior and biostatistics)
- Matthew Perkins-McVey — philosophy of pharmacy and medicine, philosophy of the life sciences, philosophy of cognitive science, early modern/modern philosophy
- Assaf Weksler —philosophy of perception (especially empirically informed), philosophy of mind, philosophy of cognitive science
Eligibility
- MA in Philosophy (with thesis) with a final grade of 85+; or
- MA in a scientific or technological discipline (final grade 85+), from candidates seeking to pursue philosophical research related to their prior field of study.
- Dual supervision with a scientific/engineering department is possible.
