Artist in Residence: Research, Teaching, and Creation
Technion – Israel Institute of Technology
Department of Humanities and Arts
The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology is pleased to announce the fourth year of its Artist in Residence: Research, Teaching, and Creation program.
Managed by the Department of Humanities and Arts, the program invites artists to develop projects in collaboration with Technion faculty, researchers, and students. It supports artists whose work integrates research and experimentation, bridging the humanities, sciences, technology, and engineering. Special preference will be given to artists whose work fosters dialogue and collaboration between art, science, and engineering within the Technion community.
Duration and Dates:
12 months during the 2025-2026 academic year (October 2025 – September 2026).
Funding:
The program is generously funded by Ms. Sonia Marschak. Artists will receive a stipend of $17,500 (gross) for the entire residency period. Artists are required to spend at least two days per week on the Technion campus, preferably more.
Housing is not included in the program; however, artists may rent Technion accommodation (subject to availability). Additional funding may be considered for international artists who commit to staying on campus most days of the week.
Workspace:
The selected artist will be provided with an office and studio space on campus. The spacious studio, generously donated by Ms. Sonia Marschak, also hosts weekly art workshops and painting classes. While additional workspace is not guaranteed, applicants with specific requirements should indicate them in their application, as Technion may be able to accommodate these needs.
Responsibilities:
As part of the residency, the artist will teach an undergraduate course focusing on research, writing, and artistic practice. Students will present their work through various formats, including lectures, installations, events, and more.
The artist will engage with Technion’s professional and cultural community, participate in lectures and social events, and foster research collaborations.
Eligibility Requirements:
Preference will be given to candidates holding a PhD or MFA degree.
Applicants must submit the following materials:
- CV including education, experience, publications (if applicable), awards, and more.
- Course Syllabus for a topic of your choice. The syllabus is subject to approval by relevant Technion committees.
- Portfolio with up to 25MB of images (JPG format) and an accompanying image list (PDF); include links to additional works online.
- References: Names of two referees, including their academic affiliation, phone number, and email address (recommendation letters will only be requested for finalists).
- Statement of Intent (3-5 pages) including:
- Description of the residency project: How will you utilize your time at Technion? What themes, artifacts, and events do you plan to create? While the project may evolve, we are keen to understand your key research questions, methodology, and implementation plan.
- Integration into the Department of Humanities and Arts: Provide a detailed explanation of how your project aligns with Technion’s programs. Consider your research, the resources available, and Technion’s students and faculty. How does your project foster collaboration between art, science, technology, and the humanities? Will your project involve partnerships with other stakeholders? Be as specific as possible.
- Proposed Timeline for the 12-month residency during the 2025-2026 academic year.
Submission Deadline: April 30, 2025.
Submit all materials to Anat Glas at: anatg@technion.ac.il
Notification of Results:
The selected candidate will be announced in June 2025.
