Postdoc Position: Philosophy of Biology

Start date: Flexible, but no later than June 1, 2026

Duration: 1 year, with a possibility of a 1-year extension

 

We invite applications for a full-time postdoctoral position in the philosophy of biology, under the supervision of Dr. Topaz Halperin in the Humanities & Arts Department at the Technion. The position is intended for scholars interested in philosophical questions raised by contemporary biology, such as the impact of AI on biological explanation, the implications of de-extinction efforts, or conceptual and methodological issues in genomics.

 

The successful candidate will conduct independent research while contributing to the intellectual life of the group and the department. Responsibilities include participating in regular discussion meetings, engaging in joint projects with scientists, and helping to organize academic workshops or conferences.

 

 

Qualifications:

  1. A PhD in philosophy of science or a closely related area, or a PhD in a biological discipline with an interest in transitioning to philosophy of science (candidates nearing PhD completion will be considered).
  2. Ability to engage with biological literature and contemporary scientific debates.
  3. A demonstrated record of excellent research and publication.
  4. Interest in fostering collaborations with scientists and working across disciplinary boundaries.

 

 

Stipend: $30,000 per year.
